CM Shredders Commissions High-Capacity Tire-Derived Aggregate System in Tahiti, Transforming a Growing Waste Challenge into Sustainable Infrastructure

Sarasota, Florida – October 2025 — CM Shredders, a leading manufacturer of advanced tire recycling systems, proudly announces the successful commissioning of a high-capacity Tire-Derived Aggregate (TDA) shredding system for EVIROPOL in Tahiti, the crown jewel of French Polynesia.

This milestone marks a significant environmental achievement for the island nation—transforming end-of-life tires from a critical waste problem into valuable resources for sustainable development.

A Paradise Facing a Growing Challenge

Famed for its turquoise lagoons, volcanic peaks, and vibrant Polynesian culture, Tahiti is often viewed as a paradise untouched. Yet like many remote islands, it has faced increasing pressure from the accumulation of used and discarded tires. With limited landfill space and high transportation costs, thousands of tires had been left in open storage or informal dumps, creating environmental hazards and threatening the island’s natural beauty.

Recognizing the urgency of the problem, EVIROPOL, a Tahiti-based environmental services company, partnered with CM Shredders to bring a world-class tire recycling solution to one of the most remote regions on Earth. The newly installed CM High-Capacity TDA System converts whole tires into clean, precisely sized tire-derived aggregate—used as a lightweight, free-draining substitute for natural stone in civil engineering projects.

A Landmark Project for French Polynesia

The new CM system represents the first large-scale tire recycling installation in French Polynesia, capable of processing up to 10 tons of tires per hour. Built around CM’s proven H-250 shredder technology, the system is engineered to operate efficiently even in remote island conditions, where logistics and energy reliability are key considerations.

“The commissioning of this system is a remarkable achievement for both EVIROPOL and the Tahitian community,” said Mario Vazquez, Sales & Marketing Director of CM Shredders.

“For islands like Tahiti, where every resource must be managed carefully and where nature is both an asset and a responsibility, this project demonstrates how circular economy principles can thrive even in the most geographically challenging locations. We’re proud to see EVIROPOL leading the way with a vision that balances sustainability, innovation, and local economic value.”

From Waste Tires to Infrastructure Solutions

With the system now operational, the tires once destined for landfills or open-air dumps are being transformed into a versatile aggregate material. TDA is already being integrated into several island infrastructure projects, including road base layers, stormwater drainage systems, and slope stabilization works—all critical to maintaining Tahiti’s resilience against tropical rainfall and erosion.

According to Thomas Mireau, Responsable Technique et Développement at EVIROPOL, the project is a breakthrough in local sustainability:

“For many years, Tahiti struggled with what to do with its growing stockpile of used tires. Exporting them was expensive and unsustainable. With CM’s system, we now have the ability to process and reuse these materials locally. The TDA we produce not only reduces waste but directly contributes to the island’s development and environmental protection. It’s a perfect example of innovation serving the community.”

A Model for Island Circular Economies

By reducing dependence on imported aggregates and lowering the carbon footprint associated with waste exports, EVIROPOL’s new TDA operation is setting a new standard for island sustainability. Beyond its technical success, the initiative is expected to create local employment opportunities and foster collaboration between the public and private sectors on future recycling initiatives.

“This project illustrates the power of localized recycling,” added Vazquez. “What EVIROPOL is doing here in Tahiti can serve as a model for other island nations across the Pacific, the Caribbean, and beyond—turning what was once a costly environmental burden into a valuable asset for infrastructure and community development.”
